Airlines offer discounted flights out of BC wildfire zones

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The nation’s two biggest airlines are making it cheaper for people to flee areas threatened by the wildfires.

Westjet has two offers up right now — the first is a 50 per cent discount on base fares from Prince George to anywhere in Canada and the United States. That offer is valid if booked by July 19th for travel until July 22nd.

“A second offer is a 25 percent off promo code for those wishing to leave Kelowna, Penticton, or Kamloops to any domestic location as well as the US,” says Lauren Stewart with WestJet.

The airline will also waive change and cancellation fees for existing bookings made on or before July 9th, for travel until July 31st.

Air Canada is also offering a 25 per cent discount for flights out of Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Prince George and Williams Lake.

In a statement, Air Canada has confirmed that any ticket to, from or through affected areas can be modified without a penalty charge. This applies for travel between now and July 22nd.

“We’re monitoring this situation very closely and will modify as required. Our thoughts are with everyone affected during these devastating times,” reads the statement.
