VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Cyclists will rule the road tonight in one part of Vancouver.
The Gastown Grand Prix takes over Cordova, Water and other streets in the area.
Brian Wiebe speaks for the race and says you can expect a lot of people in Gastown to watch.
“It’s upwards of 20,000 and other years there have been more because it is so unique to be in Gastown. These professional cyclists are riding on cobblestones,” says Wiebe. “Really it’s such a storied race, it goes back to the 70s for the first edition and it has been resurrected by Global Relay. It’s just a really fun event to watch.”
The Gastown Grand Prix is part of BC Superweek which is a series of cycling races in the Lower Mainland.
Tomorrow is the Giro de Burnaby along Hastings Street.
The first race starts at 5:30 tonight, although road closures will be set up earlier.
