Information compromised at Trump Hotel in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It has only been open for a few months, but there has been a security breach at Trump Hotel and Tower in Downtown Vancouver.

Some customers had their personal information taken from several Trump Hotel locations.

A note posted on the Trump Hotels website says the breach affected the systems of a company that provides its booking services and it was notified last month.

As many as 14 locations have been impacted by the breach.

A notice posted on the Trump Hotels website says the breach affected the systems of Sabre Hospitality Solutions, which provides booking services.

The luxury hotel chain says it was notified early last month that an unauthorized party had gained access to data for some of its reservations between August 10, 2016, and March 9 of this year.

Reservations impacted in Vancouver were made in November of 2016.

The company says the data included the cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date and maybe even the security code on the back.

Evan Kelly with the Better Business Bureau has some advice if your card is ever compromised.

“It might be pertinent just to go to your bank and have your credit cards and bank cards renewed right from the bank itself and just get some new cards.”

He says you have to take things into your own hands to make sure your information is safe.

“This comes down to our own due diligence in making sure that our credit cards or banking accounts haven’t been compromised. We’d like to think that banks are fairly good at red-flagging things in your account if things seem amiss.”

The hotel is apologizing for the inconvenience.
