Hot forecast could be trouble for the BC Interior

MONTE LAKE (NEWS 1130) – A new wildfire has forced another evacuation in the province, the latest happening near Monte Lake just east of Kamloops.

The latest blaze is believed to have been human caused and has forced 40 properties to be evacuated and another 60 homes and cabins to be on standby.

The sweltering hot temperatures and lack of rain continue to be big problems. Adding in strong winds are not helping either, according to Provincial Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek.

He says there is unstable weather on the way in many regions, and that could spell trouble too.

“Dry lightning is definitely a concern and it’s a hard thing to forecast too far ahead of time,” says Skrepnek, who adds they’ll be keeping a close eye on things.

“We can see lightning storms in real time as they are happening so that certainly dictates where we are going to be patrolling for new fires.”

Skrepnek reminds us we haven’t even hit the midpoint of summer so the number of wildfires is only going to go up.
