ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – The Abbotsford Air Show is going ahead as planned, as air quality issues clear up across the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver.
“We’re really expecting minimal impact to the flying program,” says Jadene Mah with the Air Show. “We really want to get the word out that we’re open for business.”
She says organizers are aware of the air quality issues brought on by the wildfires in the Interior, but expect things to proceed as normal as the smoke dissipates.
“Airshow performers are professionals and they come prepared with a variety of routines based on the orientation of the airshow box, which is centre stage for our spectators.”
Wildfire smoke is one of the contingencies both organizers and performers plan for.
“Because they bring a variety of flight profiles or flight routines with them, they’ll just select the best one that fits the weather and the sun and the haze conditions for the day. So, we’re expecting really minimal impact.”
The theme of this year’s event is “True North Strong,” a nod to Canada 150 celebrations.
Show-goers can expect to take in the whole arc of Canada’s aviation history, from World War I to the present day. Among the featured aircraft is a specially-painted CF-18 Hornet.
