Hundreds of Vancouver teaching jobs being posted, ahead of start of school

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As we told you yesterday, many local school districts are still scrambling to hire more teachers, with just two weeks to go until classes start up again.

Hundreds of new job postings are going up today in Vancouver alone.

When the bell rings, there’s a good chance your child will see a new teacher at the front of the classroom. The Vancouver School Board says it’s posting 280 additional part-time and full-time teaching positions, and they intend to fill them by the end of the week.

The VSB says over the summer, recruitment teams have been working overtime. And there are still dozens of full time teaching positions elsewhere in Metro Vancouver, and even more in the Fraser Valley.

Earlier this week, the BC Teachers’ Federation told NEWS 1130 provincial politics in the spring, around election time, left BC school districts at a disadvantage when it came to staff planning.
