Earnest Ice Cream says it “made a mistake” in partnering with Uber

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Uber’s latest bid to round up more Vancouver clients may have back-fired.

The owners of the Vancouver-based ice cream shop providing treats delivered by the ride-hailing service today have posted messages on social media stating “We made a mistake.”

Earnest Ice Cream’s Erica Bernardi is apologizing for doing business with the US-based company with values that “do not align with our own.”

Today, Uber drivers had been delivering free ice cream provided by the company to future clients willing to download the Uber app.

We’ve reached out for comment from Bernardi, but she hasn’t responded yet.

Uber Canada’s Susie Heath has responded with the following statement:

Uber Ice Cream was about connecting people in Vancouver with a local entrepreneur and help contribute to a worthy cause. Today we delivered hundreds of Earnest ice cream sandwiches and raised thousands of dollars for the Vancouver Sun Adopt-A-School Fund.

Uber is currently lobbying the provincial government for approval in BC and is expected to start operating in Vancouver by the end of the year.
