No jail time for North Vancouver tire-slasher

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man who slashed the tires of 150 cars around Capilano University has not been handed any jail time for what police describe as an overnight, “one-man mischief spree.”

35-year-old Shane Nendick slashed the tires in North Vancouver in December 2014, leaving people in the area needing to call tow trucks from across the Lower Mainland.

Nendick was found guilty of 28 criminal charges in March this year. 24 of those relate to the tire slashings and the others relate to property offences in 2015, including breaking into and starting a fire at the Capilano University Library.

Nendick has now received a two-year conditional sentence (less one day) for the tire slashings. For the other charges, he has received a suspended sentence with three years’ probation.

As part of his 20 probation order conditions, Nendick must reside at his family residence in Squamish and comply with a strict curfew.
