Two dead in Harrison Lake drowning

HARRISON (NEWS 1130) – A teen and a young men have drowned in Harrison Lake.

Staff Sergeant Stephen Vrolyk says officers were called to the lake around 6 p.m. yesterday. “The RCMP responded to a report of a possible drowning at Harrison Lake.”

Three people who were swimming in the lake got into some trouble, and witnesses were able to pull one of them to safety.

The other two, aged 16 and 24, were last seen about 70 feet from the shore. Police, Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, as well as witnesses continued to look for the pair, but weren’t able to rescue them.

This morning, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered the victims’ bodies. Vrolyk says it took so much time to find the bodies because Harrison is a very deep lake.

There’s no word yet on exactly what went wrong and led to the men’s deaths.

“The Coroner will be conducting any follow-up investigation. There’s nothing suspicious in the incident at this time,” points out Vrolyk.

The victims’ names have not been released, but police have confirmed they are from the Lower Mainland.

Mounties say this tragedy is a stern reminder for people of all ages to swim within their limits, use personal flotation devices, and use caution in the water.
