Expect SkyTrain delays to and from Downtown Vancouver this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you’re trying to leave Downtown Vancouver late tomorrow night or need to get around on Sunday using SkyTrain, TransLink is warning of significant service disruptions.

Jill Drews with the transit authority says the delays are because of major track upgrades.

“We’re going to be doing some daytime running rail replacement work. That’s happening between Main Street-Science World and Commercial-Broadway stations. What’s different this weekend is the work is going to continue into daytime hours — into service hours.”

“We have to replace curve tracks there, and that’s probably the place in the system with the largest curve… This is going to require 15 continuous hours, at least, to finish the installation of the tracks,” she explains.

That means eastbound and westbound trains will be running on a single track.

Drews says you can expect line-ups at both stations and longer travel times.
