Lower Mainland gas to get a little cheaper, despite Hurricane Nate

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you can hold off filling the tank till tomorrow, you may find gas is a little cheaper. Unlike Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Nate isn’t expected to empty your wallet at gas pumps.

Instead, you might see lower prices. Dan McTeague with GasBuddy.com predicts you’ll see about a one cent drop per litre.

“And that price will probably remain until at least Wednesday of next week. So, $1.34 at the top end, likely $1.24, $1.25 in some places right here in Downtown Vancouver.”

“Best to wait until the evening. Most prices tend to drop five or six cents a litre as retailers shed their margins. But the base price, the wholesale price, drops almost two cents a litre tomorrow. The way retailers price in the Lower Mainland/Vancouver, it means we may only see a one cent decrease for Sunday.”

McTeague says when it comes to hurricanes, damage is usually due to flooding, and not wind. That means, because Nate is a fast-moving system, there shouldn’t be many problems for major refineries in its path.
