Vancouver Police react to video of officer being berated

Warning: Linked video contains extremely crude language

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver police Constable Jason Doucette says the department is “disappointed” by the latest case of an officer being berated and sworn at.

A video making the rounds on social media shows an officer trying to assist a driver after a traffic accident. The man hurls various crude insults at the officer, who appears to remain calm.

“Thankfully it’s not something that occurs every day, this isn’t something that we deal with all the time… but it does happen from time to time,” says Doucette.

“Even with the training our officers receive with deescalation, sometimes it just doesn’t work. You can’t satisfy everyone.”

Earlier this month, a similar video was posted to Youtube showing two men in a car verbally abusing a transit police officer.

“We’re asking that if you do find yourself speaking inappropriately to an officer, and something clicks with you, just press pause; take a deep breath,” Doucette adds.
