Online petition asks for national ‘Gord Downie Day’

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s another chance for you to pay tribute to Gord Downie.

Our friends at JACK 96.9 have created an online petition, pushing for a national day to recognize the contributions the Tragically Hip lead singer made on behalf of the country.

Michael Kuss from the “Paul and Kuss Show” says it’s not out of the question for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to make it happen.

“Trudeau is a friend and fan of Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip. So, I don’t think it’s a stretch to have him consider a national day for the poet that Gord Downie was and what a national treasure he is to this country.

The day could also be used to help raise more funds in the battle against cancer, in particular, the type that claimed Downie’s life Tuesday night.

Last year, JACK and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson declared July 26th “Tragically Hip Day” in Vancouver.
