The large outdoor recreation store on Yukon Street won't be closing November 1 after all

New arrangement with property buyer means the popular shop will stay open until the end of November

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Good news for outdoor enthusiasts who love shopping at Vancouver’s 3 Vets.

The large store on Yukon Street won’t be closing November 1 after all.

But don’t get your hopes up too high. The shop is still closing, but co-owner Jerry Wolfman says the unnamed purchaser of the property has changed the terms of the sale to the end of November.

Wolfman, whose dad, uncle and another Second World War vet founded the shop back in 1947, says his clients are taking their imminent closure hard.

“It’s like I’m having a wake. It’s very emotionally draining. I never knew what kind of impact we had on the community of Vancouver,” he says.

“People coming in are really upset that we are leaving. People are asking ‘Where are you going? Are you going to re-open? You can’t do this to us!'”

The store isn’t being relocated. Wolfman says it’s just too difficult in this retail climate to succeed any longer.

Wolfman says due to a non-disclosure agreement, he won’t say who exactly bought the property, but it’s widely believed to be a developer.

He says when the purchaser made the offer back in January, it was something he and his brother Keith couldn’t refuse.

The 10,000 square foot store started at 832 Main Street, but had to move because of changes to the viaducts.

Long before the appearance of an MEC and Canadian Tire in the neighbourhood, the store was the one-stop shop for camping, travel and emergency kit supplies.

But Wolfman says because items have been heavily discounted, you better hurry if you want to take advantage of deals in their last month.
