Two men dead after small plane crashes near Calgary

CALGARY, AB. (NEWS 1130) – The flight of a small plane turned deadly this morning after the aircraft crashed in a field west of Calgary, killing the two men on board.

Stuart Brideaux with Emergency Medical Services says they got a call just before 10 a.m. local time that a plane went down in the field just south of the Springbank Airport.

“There was some fire suppression required by the local fire department prior to being able to access the site, however, it wasn’t a significant barrier to paramedics to be able to determine what the result was,” he explains.

What’s left of the aircraft in the beige grass of the field couldn’t be seen from several hundred meters away.

According to Cochrane RCMP, the plane was owned by a private flying school at the airport and the names of the deceased won’t be released until next of kin are notified.

Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash and it’s also unknown if the plane was leaving the airport, arriving or in the middle of some sort of training.
