VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With the Vancouver Whitecaps hoping to continue their history-making MLS play-off run in Seattle tonight, hundreds of supporters will be hitting the highway and heading south today.
John Knox with the always-loud Southsiders says they always enjoy heading into hostile territory at CenturyLink field in the Emerald City. And among the group’s repertoire of songs and antics, they save some special ones for their Cascadian rivals.
“You know what? We keep joking about this, but the ‘We have health care!’ chant really gets on a lot of Americans’ nerves sometimes,'” he chuckles.
“It’s the sort of thing where Canadians typically will just burst into spontaneously because it’s good for a laugh and it’s a little bit silly, but it tends to gets a rise out of some of the other fans in the building.”
Despite the barbs, Knox says the Southsiders and Seattle’s supporter groups actually get along quite well.
The Whitecaps will be playing the Seattle Sounders in the second leg of their semifinal series at 7:30 p.m.
