Charges laid in Marpole double homicide

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Charges have been laid in the murder of a Marpole couple in September.

25-year-old Rockie Rambo Wei Nam Kam, from Vancouver, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after the bodies of Richard Jones, 68, and Dianna Mah-Jones, 65, were found in a home on 64th Avenue near Hudson Street on September 27. Mah-Jones was an occupational therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health.

At the time, police urged members of the public to be vigilant because it was unclear if the killing was targeted or random.

Kam will make his second court appearance on November 14. He’s being held in custody.

Community reaction

It’s the news some people in the quiet south Vancouver neighbourhood have been waiting for

Backyard fireworks could be seen Tuesday night a few houses down from what was once a crime scene.

On the street, people were out for late night jogs, cars lazily snaked their way through the narrow streets, and police tape was no longer visible around the blue and white home.

Signs are pointing to a return to normalcy in the family-centric neighborhood.

With little information given to the public and no news about a possible suspect for nearly six weeks, this tragedy has been weighing on a few local minds.

“Right now, people I live with, we’re very affected by it and scared of it so I’m glad they feel safer. It’s good to know that a crazy person isn’t running around on the street, killing people because I know I like when everyone feels safe and calm and I know people are not feeling that way around here,” one man who lives nearby tells NEWS 1130.

Another neighbour says it was hard not to let the mind wander, “but of course, it does because if there’s a murderer and he hasn’t been convicted yet and he’s still out on the streets that’s still a question because I live in the neighborhood and there are so many people around.”

Police are expected to give an update on the investigation with a news conference planned for Wednesday afternoon.
