Search continues on Salmon Arm property after remains were found

SALMON ARM (NEWS 1130) – The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to look for clues on a property near Salmon Arm after confirming the remains of a missing girl were recently discovered on the farm.

“The search of the Salmon River Road site remains active and ongoing. Our investigative efforts and resource requirements are being continually assessed and as a result various resources are no longer required and are now being removed from the property. This includes the removal of temporary shelters and heavy equipment,” says RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk in a statement.

The remains of Traci Genereaux were found and her death is being treated as suspicious. An autopsy has been completed but the results are not being released.

RCMP have said five women including Genereaux have gone missing in the same area of the north Okanagan in the past 20 months. Police have not linked any of the other cases with the search of the farm.

Mounties began searching the rural property near Salmon Arm last month and announced the discovery of human remains on October 21st.

The investigation of the 10-hectare property located on Salmon River Road is ongoing and police said they’re working to establish a timeline of Genereaux’s whereabouts on the days leading up to May 29th when she was last heard from in Vernon.

A title search shows the property is owned by Wayne and Evelyn Sagmoen. It is not known whether they are related to Curtis Wayne Sagmoen, who was charged on October 17th with disguising his face with intent to commit an offence, uttering threats and weapons offences.

Sagmoen is scheduled to appear in court in Vernon on November 23rd.

Meantime, there is a dedicated tip-line set up for anyone who may have seen Genereaux or has any information about her or other missing women. You are being asked to call police at 1.877.987.8477.
