Lower Mainland ski hills opening for the season

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It may not feel like winter on the Lower Mainland, but local ski hills are gearing up for another season of snowy slopes.
Both Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain opened their slopes on Friday afternoon. Mount Seymour will be closed for a little while longer.
“This is definitely on the early side. We’re actually tied for our earliest opening day in almost 40 years, so that’s a great sign, but usually sometime November, we like to start getting the season open,” Grouse Mountain spokesperson Julia Grant said.

Nature did its part to coat parts of the mountain tops, but workers have also added to the base with snow machines. Only select runs will be open on Grouse Mountain, with more coming as the weather brings more snow.
“It’s hard to predict what Mother Nature’s going to do. The excitement level it seems from the public was it was good response we were opening so it seems other people out there are eager to hit the slopes too,” Grant said.
Grant recommends anyone who thinks of coming to the mountains for the first time to remember the top of the hill is a lot cooler than the bottom of the tram so visitors should pack warm clothing.
