Nearly four years in prison for man who harassed ex-wife

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A BC man convicted of criminally harassing his ex-wife through a revenge website has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

After time served is taken into account, Patrick Fox will spend nearly two years in prison and be on probation for three years after his release.

Fox, who represented himself in court, was found guilty by a jury in June of criminally harassing his ex-wife Desiree Capuano through threatening emails and a website that maligned her as a white supremacist, drug addict and child abuser.

While fighting back tears, Capuano says she’s hopeful that she can begin rebuilding her life now. “I have spent many, many years fighting and fighting and losing the fight and it does feel like now I’m getting help, like he is going to be forced to stop.”

She adds that she’s both shocked and relieved at today’s sentence. “I try not to ever be hopeful because that leads to disappointment and I can’t handle much disappointment but I do — I do hope this is the beginning of the end.”

Fox was also found guilty of possessing firearms in a place he was not authorized to do so. He was also sentenced to three years for criminal harassment and 10 months for the firearms offence, to be served consecutively.

“I just hope the message that gets conveyed by the fact that Mr. Fox was just sentenced to three years and 10 months in jail is that if you set out to make somebody’s life miserable, if you make that your goal in life, you stand a really good chance of going to jail,” says Crown prosecutor Mark Myhre.

Fox has also been banned from communication with his ex-wife and children, and has received a lifetime firearms ban.
