A few drinks at the office party is great, but don’t be that person who over-indulges

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – They’re meant to be fun night out, but some of our esteemed colleagues might end up making things a little awkward by over-indulging at the office Christmas party.
Not everyone enjoys socializing with their coworkers — but you should still show up, according to etiquette expert, Sunita Padda with TableSmarts.
“The office party is a great way to relax. However, it is important to keep in mind that however wild the event becomes, you are still expected to act professinally,” she explains.
A few drinks are fine, but don’t be the person who over-indulges.
“By all means — drink, dance, eat, and enjoy yourself. Just make sure that you’re not acting in a way that almost makes you want to hide your face the next day in your office.”
Padda adds you also need to make sure your outfit is appropriate. “You want to still dress professionally. Club wear, for example, would not be an appropriate choice.”
And even if the idea of hanging out with your coworkers sounds terrible, Padda says you should probably suck it up and go anyways.
“If your employer is footing the bill, it’s really important to respect their efforts and to take that time and help to create the atmosphere that they want to create for their staff.”
If you end up having an awful time… fake it. Padda notes you should still thank your bosses for the party.
