Diabetes Canada encourages you to support specific campaigns on ‘Giving Tuesday’

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Instead of hunting for deals online — like on Cyber Monday — some of us may be looking to make a donation today.

It’s “Giving Tuesday,” and instead of straight up donations, Diabetes Canada is encouraging you to consider giving your support for a specific campaign.

“Team Diabetes travels all over the world,” says Nadine Cornelius, who speaks for Team Diabetes.

She says some Canadians are right now fundraising for the charity — and also getting ready to raise awareness overseas. “For example, next year, we’re also going to be in Iceland, Vienna… we’re going to be hiking the Grand Canyon.”

Cornelius adds if you don’t want to donate, that’s okay — you could also consider participating in an upcoming event. “Team Diabetes is for anyone and everyone. You don’t have to be an athlete to participate in one of our events.”

November is Diabetes Awareness Month.

Cornelius says six people from BC are raising at least $6,500 each, and traveling to Hawaii next week to represent Team Diabets at the Honolulu Marathon.

About 11 million Canadians live with diabetes or pre-diabetes.

NEWS 1130 is a proud supporter of Diabetes Canada. Our Tim James is representing Team Diabetes at the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday, December 10th, 2017. If you’d like to help, you can click here to donate.
