Thousands expected as Harlem Globetrotters stop in Vancouver, Abbotsford

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It may be an excuse to dust off your old Vancouver Grizzlies jersey today.

Thousands of basketball fans will be heading to the Pacific Coliseum this afternoon as the Harlem Globetrotters visit Vancouver at 1 p.m.

Thunder — who is a World Record Holder with the Globetrotters — says he enjoys visiting Canada, and fans in the Lower Mainland.

“You know they love basketball here, and there’s always that good feeling when you go somewhere and play, and the fans know what to expect, and they know what good basketball looks like,” he says. “You can feel the energy when we’re in the arena in Vancouver.”

Thunder says you can expect to see some world-record shots and much more at the shows. And if you’ve seen the Globetrotters before, you can expect something new this year — the Flying Globies.

“Some of the greatest trampoline slam dunkers in the world, so that’s going to be a lot of fun. I enjoy watching them, and I’m excited for this tour to kick off.”

After the game in Vancouver, the Globetrotters only have a few hours to get out to the Fraser Valley, for a 7 p.m. tip off at Abbotsford Centre. The power had been knocked out at that venue by the freezing rain and ice storms that moved through the Fraser Valley this past week, but the city says electricity has been restored.
