Alberta man accused of killing Abbotsford officer in court next week

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – The Alberta man accused of shooting and killing an Abbotsford police officer in the line of duty two months ago today is set to be back before a judge next week.

65-year-old Oscar Arfmann, who has no previous criminal record, was charged with first-degree murder soon after Constable John Davidson was shot and killed on November 6th.

Arfmann made his first court appearance in late November. He wore red prison clothes but wasn’t in the courtroom for very long before the case was adjourned to January 12th.

Meantime, the goal of an online fundraiser in Davidson’s honour is set at $200,000 and it’s inching closer to that mark. The money will go to the fallen officer’s family, who can use the funds however they want.

Davidson was killed while he and other members of the Abbotsford Police Department were responding to reports of a vehicle theft near a strip mall on Mount Lehman Road. He was laid to rest in early December.

The 53-year-old had been with the APD for over a decade and prior to that he was an officer in the UK. He worked with youth in the community and participated in the 2017 Cops for Cancer Ride, which raises money for children afflicted with the disease.

He left behind a wife and three grown children.
