Snow, freezing rain expected overnight

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – A special weather statement has been reissued for the eastern Fraser Valley, after Environment Canada ended one for the west and Metro Vancouver, issued yesterday.

“For today — we’ve been talking about this since Tuesday morning — it’s going to be some scattered showers with a threat of thundershowers developing. And a very low freezing level means it could also be thunderflurries around parts of the district. Today’s high is 6,” says NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

Russ points out things may get a bit dicey overnight and tomorrow morning.

“A large-scale system spreads in, primarily bringing rain to Metro Vancouver. Upper elevations — close to the North Shore and some of the inland sections — could see precipitation beginning as wet snow. And the further inland you go — throughout the Fraser Valley — an outflow breeze keeps supplying the cold air. I think wet snow will accumulate in many parts of the Valley overnight and Saturday morning, change to freezing rain, and then eventually change over to rain. But it could be a mess tomorrow.”

Russ says on Sunday, he expects heavier rain. Early next week, things return back to normal, with a showery pattern expected on Monday and Tuesday.
