Tears shed as friends, family, teammates remember Delta teen

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Loved ones shed tears while others choked back emotions as they said goodbye to a Delta teen who died suddenly last week. His friends, family and teammates gathered at Winskill Park in Tsawwassen on Sunday to celebrate his life.

Last Tuesday, Kyle Losse, 14, was taken off life support at BC Children’s Hospital just two days after collapsing at home and sustaining what’s believed to be a head injury. The teen was found with a vape pen or e-cigarette next to him. Following the fall, he was rushed to the hospital and released the same night, only to be taken back soon after.

Kyle was a star baseball player for the Delta Triple-A Tigers, and his coach Cam Frick says he had real talent. “He had the type of skill and passion for the game that when he stepped on the field, everyone took notice, everyone knew he was there. He was loved by his teammates and coaches. It’s been a tough couple of days for us and I can’t imagine what the Losse family is going through.”

Speaking through tears, Kyle’s father, Brian, remembered his young son. “Today Kyle is watching us. He wants all of you athletes to follow your dreams, play hard, train hard and be kind to one another. I love you my son, you will never ever be forgotten and I promise to keep your legacy going forever. I love you and thank you for making me the man that I am today. You’re gone too soon, but now you’re playing for a new team, the angels. Daddy loves you.”

Losse went on to say he would try to get the team’s baseball field named in honour of his son as “Field 14, Kyle Losse.”

Stepmother Niki, also spoke fondly of Kyle. “The title of mom has never been important to me. What was important to me was is that Kyle loved me as a mom. Kyle came to live with Brian and I when he was just two-years-old. I’ll never forget what he requested for dinner on his first night: chicken nuggets, rice and cucumbers — still to this day, it was one of his favourite meals. Your laugh was contagious. Your curiosity was never-ending and your love made our house a home.”

Kyle’s exact cause of death is unclear and is being investigated.

GoFundMe page has been set up in Kyle’s honour.
