VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The family and friends of a young man whose life was cut short on the Granville strip gathered in the rain Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil.

Kalwinder Thind, 23, was working at the Cabana Lounge early Saturday morning when he tried to break up a street fight and was stabbed.

Vancouver Police made several arrests after the incident, but no charges have been laid yet.

“His spirit was bright and he was loved by all,” reads a statement from one of Thind’s employers.

His friend, Andrew, said Thind was supposed to be going to India on Monday.

“I’ve never seen him as excited for a trip ever in his live. He was excited to travel through India with his father for first time.”

He was known as Kris by his friends.

“Now we’re all going to suffer and we are going to feel pain, but we are always going to think about the great memories that we had with Kris. Whether it was that one minute conversation at school or whether it was hour long conversations on the phone.”

Vancouver Police made several arrests after the incident, but no charges have been laid yet.
