Technical problem leads to long delays for Air Canada flights

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Be prepared for delays, if you are heading to YVR Airport for a flight with Air Canada.

The airline experienced problems with its computerized systems this morning, meaning passengers were not able to check in or drop off their luggage.

Air Canada says the problem has been fixed, but passengers should continue to expect delays.

The glitch has led to long delays at YVR for passengers who either had to wait a long time or weren’t able to board their flights.

According to one woman at the airport who is supposed to be heading to Kamloops, there were “thousands” of frustrated people waiting in line to check in for their Air Canada flights at YVR.

Donna called NEWS 1130, telling us she’s asked airline staff, but aside from saying they’ll look after their passengers, not more is being offered.

“There’s no communication. Everybody just says they don’t know what’s going on,” she tells us.

Delays at other airports across Canada and worldwide

Air Canada passengers at other airports across the country also experienced delays.

“We’re currently experiencing an interruption at our customer Contact Centres and . We apologize for any inconvenience and are working towards restoring our service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience,” reads a tweet from the airline.

It appears the problem didn’t only affect Air Canada flights in this country.

People were also unable to book flights at this time.
