Abbotsford Police arrest men accused of fentanyl trafficking

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Two men have been arrested for supposedly trafficking drugs, including fentanyl, in Abbotsford.

The pair was taken into custody last week and their arrests stem from months-long investigations.

Abbotsford Police began looking into Michael Bentley in December. “The arrest and investigation of Mr. Bently did include search warrants of a variety of areas including his residence in Abbotsford, vehicle, and a storage locker,” explains Sgt. Judy Bird. “And all of these areas did obtain evidence to support the charges of trafficking in fentanyl.”

Investigators say they found $6,000 in cash, fentanyl, crack cocaine, heroin, multiple cell phones and other items that “consistent with drug trafficking.”

The 40-year-old was arrested last Tuesday, March 13th, and remains in police custody. “Currently Mr. Bently is on release conditions for a 2016 investigation with similar fact information.”

One day later, police arrested another man they say had been dealing fentanyl. According to the APD, the investigation into Robert Harris, 48, began in January after police received information he was trafficking fentanyl from his apartment. Harris is due back in court this April.

Bird says taking dangerous drugs off the streets is one of police’s top priorities.

“The Abbotsford Police continues to be alarmed by the rate of overdoses that are occurring in our community, and so we will continue to aggressively target fentanyl dealers in Abbotsford.”

She adds police are always interested in hearing from the public about crimes, or suspicious behavior. She urges you to give them a call at 604-859-5225 or to text them at 222-973. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

“We will continue this fight against fentanyl, every day,” Bird adds.
