DELTA (NEWS 1130) – A driver seen on dashcam video going the wrong way on Highway 99 before crashing into two other cars this past weekend has died of his injuries.

The BC Coroner’s Service has confirmed the death of the 26-year-old man from Vancouver.

Deas Island RCMP Sergeant Lorne Lecker says the cause of the head-on crash near the Massey Tunnel is under investigation.

“A very large number of videotapes have been supplied by the public, either dashcam or handheld cell phone video and through that, we’ve been able to put together the sequence of events from when the vehicle crossed over to the wrong side of the highway until the time of the collision.”

He adds some people who witnessed the Volkswagen Golf minutes before the collision on Sunday afternoon have already contacted police.

“I wouldn’t be able to tell you the exact amount, but I would say, probably, we’re getting close to the double digit number of tips.”

Lecker’s asking anyone else who has posted videos online to share them with investigators, but he’s also reminding drivers not to use hand-held devices to record them.
