Where to buy? Online publication finds best home deals in Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you are in the market to purchase a home in Metro Vancouver, you know how tough it can be to find a deal.

So where can you turn?

The latest online issue of MoneySense magazine — Where to Buy Now — is all about finding the best deal, but that doesn’t mean the cheapest price.

According to Contributing Senior Editor Romana King, uptown New Westminster is among the most attractive areas to buy.

She says while the average home price is just under seven figures, there’s a lot to offer.

“Under a million, more house, easy access to downtown with more of a built up community so they can stay in their community on the weekends. That’s becoming more of an attractive area.”

King says the consensus from realtors is that the amenities and benefits of living in the Royal City means you’re closer to downtown Vancouver without the price tag that goes with it.

Meantime, if you’re looking at the city of Vancouver itself, King says Marpole comes out as number one on the list, with Kitsilano not that far behind.

“The average house in Vancouver is about $3.9 million, and you can get the average house price in Kits is $3.44 million.”

Remember the list highlights the best deals, not necessarily the cheapest prices.

So what if you want to go farther out?

“A lot of people would actually argue that Mission is not a neighbourhood where people commute. But the reality is, is it. I mean people commute as far as Agassiz and Chilliwack, so Mission is definitely closer than those two options.”

Other places identified as offering some good deals around Metro Vancouver include Port Moody Centre and two neighbourhoods in Port Coquitlam.
