Vancouver Police arrest suspect in series of Downtown Eastside knife attacks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Vancouver man is under arrest following four separate, unprovoked attacks on the city’s Downtown Eastside.
In each attack, the suspect went up to a stranger and slashed them with a knife before running away.
The first attack happened around 8:20 p.m. on Friday when police say a 50-year-old man was approached from behind and slashed across the neck.
A second attack happened 10 minutes later at Keefer Street and Jackson Avenue. A 56-year-old man was the victim in that incident.
A third attack happened around 8:40 p.m. near Jackson Avenue and Union Street. Police say a woman her 80s was slashed across the neck.
A fourth and final attack happened at 8:50 p.m at Keefer Street and Gore Avenue. A 24-year-old man was slashed across the face before fighting off his attacker. A suspect could be seen headed west towards Main Street.
All four victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
23-year-old Joshua David Mennear has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault.
