‘Cabin Fever’ Vancouver Art Gallery’s newest exhibition

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Art Gallery has announced its latest exhibition, focused around the North American cabin.

Cabin Fever is an exhibition that will focus on the history of the cabin as an architectural form and a culture construct. It’ll run from June 9th to September 30th.

A collection of 17 models will be in chronological order to showcase the cultural influences. Two full-scale cabins will also be in the gallery space.

The exhibit will explore the evolution of these buildings by comparing them that were written in 1854 books to those discussed on modern day websites such as Cabin Porn. There are three themes: shelter, utopia, and porn.

The shelter theme focuses on the cabin as a a part of westward expansion and emergency relief.

The second theme of utopia is looking at a cabin as the ideal vacation spot to escape the stress of society. Porn explores how the cabin is integrated into pop culture.

The exhibition will also feature models, photography, and historical documents.

Cabin Fever is a follow-up exhibition to the Grand Hotel exhibition in 2013 which looked at the cultural impact of the hotel.
