Gas prices could fall this weekend, says analyst

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Heading out of town for the long weekend? You may want to wait to gas up your car until this weekend.

Apart from a one cent increase Friday night, Dan McTeague with GasBuddy.com says prices around Metro Vancouver aren’t expected to rise over the weekend.

“Of course, retailers on the weekend — starting Saturdays, right until almost Monday morning — tend to shave three, four cents off… their retail margins. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of gas stations selling fuel again for 155.9 or 156.9.”

“It’s not going to get worse — and we’re so used to that now, with breaking record after record. It looks like prices are going to stabilize, at least for the next four or five days. So no rush, no panic,” he adds.

McTeague says the rest of the country is seeing price increases. But we are still paying the most at the pumps. He notes we’ll have a better idea of summer driving prices next week, when the US Memorial Day weekend starts.

Remember, if you’re to the BC Interior this long weekend, you should check your travel routes carefully as parts of BC continue to deal with heavy flooding.
