Langley grow-op goes up in flames

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A marijuana grow-op has been destroyed after a fire overnight.

Langley fire crews were called to a barn on 256th street in Aldergrove late Saturday night for reports of a fire.

Firefighters have brought the flames under control.

“It is a grow-op but we have confirmed from Health Canada it is a legal licenced grow-op,” says Langley Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Ferguson. “The barn is pretty much on the ground, there’s nothing salvageable.”

It’s unclear what started the fire at this point, and crews say there’s little they can do about the damage.

“It’s a huge barn and when it collapses in on itself, all that metal cladding sits on top of the burning material.”

No one was hurt in the blaze, and nearby farms are not affected.

“They were concerned about their animals in the barn, but we put a crew over there and watched for a while but no issues with the farm or the animals.”

10 fire trucks and 60 firefighters remained at the scene through the night.

Callers to our newsroom who live in the area say it was an eventful night, and describe the flames as being 30 feet high.
