Mounties release composite sketch after child approached in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The RCMP is releasing a composite sketch of a man who is accused of approaching a child outside of a Surrey school last week.

Mounties say the child was standing in front of Frost Road Elementary School on 162 Street around 1:00 p.m. on May 14th when the suspect drove up and tried to convince them to get in his car.

The child refused and instead was able to run to a safe place.

The Surrey RCMP describes the man as a South Asian man who may be in his 40’s or younger. He has a trimmed beard with grey patches and was wearing a blue turban with orange underneath.

He was driving what could be a grey sedan with tinted windows, which is described as having a “messy interior.”

Mounties are asking that anyone who recognizes this person call them at 604-599-0502. If you’d like to remain anonymous, you’re asked to contact Crime Stoppers at at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.

Officers are reminding young people and children to take the necessary safety precautions. Kids are reminded not to take short cuts, always walk with friends, and make sure someone knows where they’re going and when they will be back.

Police add children should never help strangers, always trust their instincts and phone if their plans change or if they get delayed.
