The song that was popular when you were 14 defines your life, or so says the internet

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Is there a song that just speaks to you, one that says it all?

If you’ve been on social media in the past 24 hours or so, you’ve probably seen the suggestion that the tune that topped the charts when you turned 14 is the one that defines your life.

Mike Lloyd’s defining song is Against All Odds by Phil Collins and he’s OK with it.

“I’m not sure it’s my favourite Phil Collins song, I’m not sure it’s defining, but it’s okay,” says Mike.

There are other suggestions he likes too, including “The Reflex” from Duran Duran and “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins.

Amelia John is a little younger and Coolio had her song

She admits she still knows all the words to Gansta’s Paradise.

Reporter Martin McMahon’s defining song is “Everything You Want” from one-hit wonder Vertical Horizon.

Doo-Wop (That Thing) apparently speaks for Sportsnet 650’s Chris Wahl. Although if you ask Chris, he’ll tell you none of the top 20 songs on the charts from that week resonate with him.

As for Denise Wong, she’s not happy with her tune, Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton, and would rather go with the one that was number seven on the charts from Merrill Bainbridge.

“I don’t like it. It makes me upset. It disappoints me and makes me sad.”

Chris Brown hit Kiss Kiss is Kayla Butler’s “defining song”, although she wishes she had a song with an artist that isn’t connected to domestic abuse.

“Can I opt for Alicia Keys’ No One? It’s a better song anyway.”

Adam Cooper will forever be stuck with Daniel Powter’s Bad Day.

“Can I have a recount?” he laughed.

Some other notable mentions include Kenny Mason’s “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce, Ben Wilson’s “Jump” by Kris Kross, Peter Wagner’s “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey, and Bruce Claggett’s “(Just Like) Starting Over” by John Lennon.

So what’s your defining song? Tell us in the comments below.
