Canucks set pick 7th today in the NHL Draft

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a big day for fans of the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks have 7th pick in today’s NHL Draft.

But Perry Solkowski with Sportsnet 650 says we shouldn’t expect GM Jim Benning to make a trade to move up to select higher.

“The problem with the Vancouver Canucks is if you’re sitting on the outside and go, ‘Who do we look at?’ you’re looking at young guys like Brock Boeser, who you would think is untouchable. Like a Jake Virtanen, who they’ve put a lot of work into and don’t want to give up on. There’s too many young guys… Jim Benning said we’re not getting rid of those guys — we hope those guys are our future.”

Solkowski notes the Canucks should get a decent player with the 7th pick.

“Noah Dobson is a one player who had a great Memorial Cup. He looks like he might be able to help. But to think that the name that is called this afternoon in Dallas is one that will be on the starting lineup next October, I think that’s a little bit of a stretch. But you never know with these kids.”

The Canucks have six picks in the draft.
