VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Your weather coverage on NEWS 1130 is about to get even better.

Michael Kuss is joining our team as our full-time afternoon meteorologist.

“As one of the most recognized and respected meteorologists in our market, Michael will join Russ Lacate as a powerful weather duo on NEWS 1130,” says NEWS 1130 News Director Charmaine de Silva.

By expanding our weather team, we are making sure you have the details you need to prepare for that evening soccer practice or weekend family day trip.

Michael spent the first years of his life in Coquitlam before moving to Victoria as a 5-year-old. That’s where his love of weather originated. The Kuss family spent a lot of time outdoors in the elements camping or salmon fishing or both.

Michael first studied at the University of Victoria before discovering meteorology as a career. He has degrees in both Meteorology and Journalism from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Michael has been forecasting the weather for almost 25 years. He worked as Chief Meteorologist at Global and City TV in Toronto for almost 10 years after stints in Edmonton, Red Deer and at the Weather Network. Kuss came back to BC in 2010 and has been doing his best to master the tricky local microclimates around the Lower Mainland.

Michael lives in North Vancouver with his wife and 3 kids. He’s the communications director of the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club and coaches several youth soccer and baseball teams on the North Shore. He still plays soccer, some pickup basketball and loves to mountain bike when he can squeeze a ride in.

Michael will start bringing his reliable weather forecasts to NEWS 1130 starting mid-July.
