Anti-SOGI meeting in Surrey met with counter rally

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A part of the province’s school curriculum centered around inclusiveness for the LGBTQ community is coming under the microscope tonight, as the The Canadian Christian Lobby, which is against the curriculum, is having a meeting at the Pentecostal Church in Surrey.

Those in favor of the program are outside to meet them.

Brad Dirks has a transgender son in the Langley School District, and helped organize the counter-rally. He says, there’s a lot of misinformation about the curriculum being thrown around.

“They say that SOGI teaches kids in school that they can switch their genders or change genders. That’s absolutely not true,” says Dirks.

“They teach people that it’s okay if you are a transgender person and you’re normal and as equal as everybody else, and they teach people that some people are like that. But they do not teach kids that they can go home and just swap genders.”

Dirks says they don’t plan on crashing the session, but are just there as a show of support for the LGBTQ community.
