DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Don’t be surprised to see cyclists taking over roads across Metro Vancouver over the next few days.

BC Superweek is underway.

Organizer Brian Wiebe says cyclists will be racing in events like the Gastown Grand Prix and the Giro di Burnaby.

“There’s always thousands of people who come out for each of these races in BC Superweek. And I think one of the things is there’s a lot of added entertainment as well at each event, lots of things for kids. It’s free to watch too which is really attractive for spectators.”

He says riders from around the world will be racing.

“These are professional athletes that’ve raced at Olympics and world championships. Some of them are local, and that’s great too. It’s really good opportunity to see these high caliber athletes basically in your own backyard.”

Today’s races are part of the Tour De Delta with road closures set up in Ladner Village. The event starts just after 5 p.m.
