Mounties look to ID suspect in hit and run involving officer

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Mounties need your help identifying a man they believe is responsible for a hit and run that left an officer with a broken arm.
Surveillance video has been released of the suspect, and police hope you can help identify him.
On July 4th, a Burnaby RCMP officer tried to pull over a suspected distracted driver accused of using an electronic device behind the wheel in the area of Willingdon Avenue and Parker Street. But the driver took off and hit the officer in the process, sending her to hospital.
She was released the same day, and is “expected to return to duty in coming months,” a release reads.
Police are looking for a south Asian man with a heavy build and a shaved head. Mounties believes he’s about 5’9″ tall, and has a tattoo on his left are.
He was driving a Dodge Nitro SUV at the time of the incident with BC license plates numbered PK994H.
“I can tell you that the vehicle has not been reported stolen,” Corporal Michael Kalanj says. “We have spoken to the registered owner and we’ve confirmed that they were not the driver of the vehicle.”
“The police officer involved has asked that we extend sincere thanks to the members of the public who assisted after the incident took place,” reads a release. “By stopping traffic and protecting our injured officer they prevented the potential for further injury occurring.”
