Two people rescued after going overboard cruise ship near Victoria

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – Two people fell from a cruise ship outside of Victoria Thursday evening, the pair had to be rescued by another vessel.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says the two were working on a lifeboat on the Explorer of the Seas, which belongs to Royal Caribbean Cruises, when they ended up in the water.

The rescue centre says it doesn’t know whether they were crew members or passengers.

The centre can’t say how long they were in the water, but it does say they were both wearing life vests.

The two were assessed for any injuries then returned to the cruise ship.

Earlier this month, an elderly man went overboard on a Victoria-bound cruise ship.

He was eventually found and pronounced dead in the hospital.
