Fire destroys abandoned Kerrisdale home

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It looks like fire crews have gained the upper hand on a fire which destroyed an abandoned house in an upscale Vancouver neighborhood.

The two-alarm fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. Sunday on Southwest Marine Drive near West 54th in Kerrisdale.

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Wilson says the roof and two walls have caved in, however it doesn’t look like anyone was hurt.

“No injuries, no people around, no one in the house. Neighbours have said it’s an abandoned house. It has fencing wrapped around the outside and we’ve removed the fencing so we could gain access.”

A portion of South-West Marine Drive remains closed as crews continue their work.

“We have had two engines lay on South-West Marine Drive and on taking lines in and putting water on the fire,” Wilson adds.
