There are a number of road closures in place as Ironman Canada hits the streets of Whistler

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – Ironman Canada is hitting the streets in Whistler Sunday, and that means you might have a little trouble getting up the Sea to Sky Highway.

There are several closures along Highway 99 between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Around 3,400 athletes from around the world are swimming, cycling and running their way across 226 kilometres to the finish line.

Regional director Keats McGonigal expects 15,000 to 20,000 people to come out to cheer the athletes on.

“It is a cool spectator event and it’s certainly free and open to the public for people to come and stand along the side of the road and cheer on the runners and see the spectacle that is the Ironman as well.”
