Third installment of major film may not shoot in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Industry chatter about a blockbuster franchise born in Vancouver moving to the United States has many locals hoping it’s not true.

A Production Weekly posting this week is suggesting Deadpool 3 might be shot in Atlanta, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Amber Sessions with Tourism Vancouver is hoping the third installment is shot here.

“Like most Vancouverites, Tourism Vancouver would love to see Deadpool 3 filmed in Vancouver. We have a growing film tourism program. Deadpool 2 was actually one of the films that we worked really successfully with Fox and other partners to do a great tourism campaign around.”

She adds a recent contest offering Deadpool fans a free trip to the city had more than 40,000 entries and 4 million impressions online.

“Certainly if Deadpool did move to Atlanta, we’d be able to move on to other projects. We’ve done similar projects with lots of other movies that have been in Vancouver, so it’s not like this is the only movie that we’d ever be able to work with, but would we love to see it filmed in Vancouver again? Of course we would.”

Sessions says other campaigns for the movies Planet of the Apes and Fifty Shades of Grey have also been good.
When there was talk of shooting Deadpool 2 outside Vancouver, actor Ryan Reynolds insisted production stay in his hometown.

He’s the star of the franchise who’s also one of the producers and was instrumental in getting the first Deadpool movie filmed.
