MERRITT (NEWS 1130) – The biggest outdoor country show in the province is happening in Merritt this weekend.

You won’t need a whole lot of arm twisting; there are around 50,000 people already going to the Rockin’ River Music Festival.

“Everything is done with re-purposed wood the way that an old west town would be,” Founder Kenny Hess says on the country feel of the site. “We don’t take a two-by-four [board down that has been there 25 years and throw it away. We let it get grey and use it for a display. Our site very much looks like you are coming into somebody’s beautiful backyard.”

Hess adds the festival is more than just about the music.

“It’s absolutely about the experience. There is no other venue on earth like this one, 900 acres of just absolute gorgeous country living.”

According to the event page, the area also features beautiful views and a big campground along the Coldwater River. With temperatures expected in the 30s this weekend, that waterway will be the place to be to help you beat the heat.

“We have a river that runs right through the site which is very well used,” Hess explains. “People sit in it all day and stay as cool as they can.”

Brett Eldredge, Dallas Smith and Eric Church are some of the big names this year.

Rockin’ River Music Fest is a family-owned and run event that takes place every year over the BC Day long weekend.
