Body found after house fire in East Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Coroners Service has been called in after a body was found inside a home that went up in flames in the area of Skeena Street and East 3rd Avenue Tuesday morning.

“At this point, VPD investigators are working with investigators from the Vancouver Fire and Rescue,” explains Sgt. Jason Robillard with the VPD. “I can confirm that a body was located inside the residence, however, the investigation remains active and ongoing.”

Police are not releasing any further information, including whether the person was living at the home. Police are still trying to determine whether the investigation involves anything criminal in nature or not.

“If there’s something that looks like it is a criminal investigation, we will definitely take over the investigation and likely still work with Vancouver Fire and Rescue… As far as the cause of death and things like that, that will be up to the BC Coroners Service to comment on that.”

The fire broke out around 9:00 a.m., and smoke could be seen from several parts of the region.

Crews say flames were coming out of the upper-floor windows of the two-storey home when they arrived.
