Man tries to steal $30,000 worth of collector cards, assaults witness in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Police in Abbotsford are hoping you can help them find a man who assaulted another, as he tried to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of collector cards.

On Friday¬†at about 4 p.m. the suspect went into a store on Gladys Avenue near George Ferguson Way and asked to see a binder that contained $30,000 worth of “Dual Lands” Magic Cards.

“He grabbed the binder and fled from the store on foot,” explains Sgt. Judy Bird. “As he was fleeing the store, a witness chased after him. He dropped the binder, turned around, and punched the customer in the¬†face.”

The suspect then ran away.

Bird says the store clerk was not hurt. “There was a counter between the suspect and the clerk, so he wasn’t able to go after the suspect himself.”

“We have a variety of different types of collectors in our community, including stamps and hockey cards. These cards are considered valuable to the collectors who are interested in them.”

He is described as Asian, about 30 years old, 6’0″ tall, and 200lbs. He was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt, grey track pants, and a black hat.
