VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – About a dozen small businesses on Vancouver’s West Side are wondering how they are going to survive, after they are forced to leave at the end of next month.

The land owner has new plans for the building on West 10th near Sasamat, which don’t include the current tenants.

Dr. Bin Xie runs a dental office, and says it’s tough times for small businesses.

“I’m still doing some struggling to survive the situation. It’s so hard. It feels like I really cannot survive this way.”

He says he’ll have remain closed for at least three months before he can open up shop somewhere else. Meantime, Bruce Preston says it’ll be hard to find a new, permanent place to run his law firm.

“Many of these smaller commercial properties have a demolition clause, in other words if they decide they want to redevelop the property that can terminate the lease.”

There’s no word yet on what the land owner plans to do with the space.
